Benfica reaches an agreement in principle with Roger Schmidt

Benfica announced this Wednesday that it reached an agreement in principle with Roger Schmidt, but added that negotiations are still ongoing and the hiring of the German coach is not yet finalised.

“Negotiations are ongoing and there is an agreement in principle to hire coach Roger Schmidt, which has not yet been formalised,” the club said in a statement sent to CMVM.

Schmidt is the coach of PSV Eindhoven since 2020 and will move to Benfica after Jorge Jesus left the helm of the Portuguese team at the end of last year, following poor results. Since then, the squad has been led on an interim basis by coach Nelson Veríssimo, who was previously in Benfica’s second team.
