Sonae's retail company "informs that Continente's IT systems are being progressively restored after the cyber-attack detected yesterday, March 30."

The computer systems of Continente hypermarkets and supermarkets “are being progressively restored”, after the cyber-attack they suffered more than 24 hours ago, MC Sonae clarified on Thursday.

Sonae’s retail company “informs that Continente’s IT systems are being progressively restored after the cyber-attack detected yesterday, March 30,” but “we maintain, as always, the business operation of the shops,” MC Sonae said in a statement.

“We regret the constraints caused”, adds the company owned by Sonae, stressing that their teams “are working around the clock, in close coordination with the National Centre for Cybersecurity [CNCS], to resume normal activity of the shops as soon as possible”.

MC takes this opportunity to thank “all employees, customers, partners and competitors who have shown solidarity with the company in the face of this attack”.

MC Sonae “is working with national and international authorities to identify and punish those responsible for this criminal act”, adding that “the information concerning the evolution of this situation will be updated whenever it is justified”.

MC Sonae is the latest company to be the target of a cyber-attack in Portugal, after the Impresa group, Vodafone Portugal and Germano de Sousa laboratories, just to name a few of the known cases since the beginning of the year.
