In the note sent to customers, Galp stressed that "the new prices reflect the increase in the cost of energy acquisition in line with the price rises on the international market."

Portuguese energy company Galp will raise its tariffs for domestic customers from 15 April, with monthly increases of up to €3 for natural gas, and €1 or €2 for electricity, an official source said on Monday.

In the note sent to customers, to which Lusa had access, Galp stressed that “the new prices, which are shown in the price table, reflect the increase in the cost of energy acquisition in line with the price rises on the international market,” indicating the new values, but without referring to the variation in question.

Contacted by Lusa, an official Galp source said that “for the most common natural gas consumption, the monthly increases vary between €1.6 and €3  and for the main contracted powers in the case of electricity between €1 and €2.

In the bill analysed for a domestic customer, with a contracted power of 3.45 Kva in electricity, the increase in the price of energy consumed oscillates between 1.8% off-peak and 3.9% off-peak.

For natural gas (level 1), the announced increase is almost 15% – going from 0.07728 to 0.0889 euros/Mwh.

The wholesale electricity and natural gas markets were going through an energy crisis, with historically high values, and the price escalation skyrocketed with the war in Ukraine, reaching values ten times higher than those registered at the beginning of 2021.
