Jobless figures fall 12.9% in October YoY

Portugal's total number of registered unemployed people was below that recorded in the same month of 2020 (-51,887 people, equivalent to a drop of 12.9%).

The number of unemployed registered in job centres fell in October by 12.9% year-on-year and by 2.1% compared to September, according to data released today by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).

According to the IEFP, at the end of October, 351,667 unemployed people were registered in the Employment Services of Mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Regions, representing 66.1% of the total of 532,053 job applications.

The country’s total number of registered unemployed people was below that recorded in the same month of 2020 (-51,887 people, equivalent to a drop of 12.9%). It was also lower than in the previous month (-7,481 unemployed, a drop of 2.1%).

“This is the seventh consecutive month of reduction in registered unemployment,” the IEFP said.
