Portugal in the top 5 most valuable teams at Euro 2020. How much is it worth?
The Seleção is the fifth most valuable team at Euro 2020, with a market valuation fixed at €872.5 million.
After a year’s postponement because of Covid 19, Euro 2020 is finally kicking off. Fans in the stadiums, the cheers coming from the stands and the jerseys representing the most varied nations of the old continent are (finally) returning to the great stage of European football. And on the pitch, there will be many stars competing for the trophy, some more valuable than others. How much is each team worth?
Starting with Portugal, and looking at the data provided by the Transfermarkt website, the team led by Fernando Santos is the fifth most valuable team in this edition of the European Championship, with a market valuation fixed at €872.5 million.
When we talk about the Seleção, we think about the important sporting role that Cristiano Ronaldo has. However, in terms of contribution to the market value of this team, the story is different. According to the same website, Bruno Fernandes (valued at €90 million), João Félix (€80 million), Rúben Dias (€75 million) and Bernardo Silva (€70 million) are the national players with the best valuation and who contribute the most to Portugal’s total market value. Out of curiosity, Ronaldo’s valuation stands at €45 million.
If Portugal is in the fifth position, which teams are worth more?
England, better known as The Three Lions, comes out on top of the list with a staggering valuation of €1.3 billion. A figure that can be explained by the fact that most of the players in this squad play in the most valuable league in the world of football, the Premier League (currently valued at €8.5 billion).
It should also be noted that the athletes who had the most weight in the market value of the English team, were Harry Kane (valued at €120 million), Jadon Sancho (€100 million), Raheem Sterling (€90 million) and Marcus Rashford (€85 million).
In the second position is France, Portugal’s opponent in this group stage, with a €1 billion valuation. A market value that is sustained essentially by the contributions of striker Kylian Mbappé (€160 million euros), Raphaël Varane (€70 million), Kingsley Coman (€65 million) and Paul Pogba (€60 million).
Closing this podium, we have Germany, also Portugal’s opponent in Group F, with a market value of €936.5 million. The athletes Joshua Kimmich (valued at €90 million), Leon Goretzka (€70 million), Serge Gnabry (€70 million), Kai Havertz (€70 million) and Timo Werner (€65 million) are the biggest contributors to the Mannschaft‘s overall valuation.
Finally, valued at €915 million, Spain comes fourth on the list. La Roja reached this market value with the great help of the players Marcos Llorente (€80 million), Mikel Oyarzabal (€70 million), Rodri (€70 million), Pedri (€70 million) and Koke (€60 million).
