Government will suspend TAP’s company agreements for 4 years
TAP's company agreements will be suspended for the next four years. Pay cuts will be gradual up to a maximum of 25%.
The TAP group’s company agreements, which will enter into a restructuring process, will be suspended for four years, according to the Correio da Manhã newspaper on Monday. The decision was communicated to the unions by the Minister of Infrastructure, Pedro Nuno Santos, at last week’s meetings.
The minister also said that the cuts in TAP workers’ payroll are part of the suspension of the employment contract, being gradual up to a maximum of 25%. The Civil Aviation Pilots Union (SPAC) criticizes the restructuring plan, arguing that it is outdated because of the Covid-19 vaccines now in development.
The decree that suspends the company agreements will only be published after the approval of TAP’s restructuring plan in Parliament. It should be noted that the Portuguese government wants to take to Parliament a vote on TAP’s restructuring plan as soon as possible, which requires the dismissal of about 2,000 workers and average pay cuts of 25%.
