Web Summit to be 100% online this year

The Web Summit will be exclusively online this year. Paddy Cosgrave wanted to hold a hybrid event (face-to-face and online), but after dialogue with the Government and the Lisbon City Council, it was decided that it will be a 100% digital edition because of Covid-19.
“But with the growth of Covid-19 infections and outbreaks in Europe, we have to think about what is best for the Portuguese and for our participants,” says Paddy Cosgrave in a statement.
“The safest and most reasonable way to repeat the Web Summit is to do it completely online in 2020,” he adds in this communiqué, days after he revealed via Twitter that this possibility was being analysed.
The technology summit will take place between December 2 and 4 in the virtual world, and it is expected that over 100 thousand people will access the channel created exclusively for the Portuguese event through which interviews will be conducted with hundreds of CEO’s of national startups.
“We hope to welcome the participants in Lisbon again in 2021”, says Paddy, anticipating the return to the face-to-face model that in previous years has had a strong impact on the economy of Lisbon.
