António Costa has said that it would be "insane" if Portugal were to enter a political crisis in the current international climate.

Portugal’s prime minister, António Costa, has said that it would be “insane” if Portugal were to enter a political crisis in the current international climate and said that the budget negotiations with left-wing partners are making positive progress.

This position on the State Budget for 2021 was conveyed by Costa at a joint press conference on Monday with European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen in Lisbon.

“Negotiations with our parliamentary partners have been progressing positively, so I am confident that this year, as in the previous four, we will have a good Budget,” he said.

“We already have a health crisis, an economic crisis and a social crisis have been added. To have a political crisis would be absolutely insane and unjustified. I believe that nothing justifies that. On the contrary, I think negotiations have been going on so that we have a good budget for 2021,” he said.
