214 new Covid-19 cases, five more deaths in last 24 hours
The number of cases of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 54,448. To date, there have been 1,784 deaths in the country.
Portugal has registered 214 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus on Tuesday, with the total number of infected people rising to 54,448. Also in the last 24 hours, five people died from the disease, elevating the confirmed virus-related death toll to 1,740, according to the daily bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
Following what has been observed in recent weeks, most of the new infections were in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region: 128 new cases have been identified in this area, representing 59.8% of the country’s total cases.
Of the total number of infected people, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 336 people hospitalized, 38 of them in intensive care. There are over 35,000 people under the surveillance of the health authorities.
