Tourism practically stopped in May – INE

After the complicated month of April, marked by confinement, the month of deconfinement was not much better for tourism. INE reveals that tourism activity was "practically stopped" in May.

Tourist activity in Portugal was practically stopped in May, with 149.800 guests and 307.000 overnight stays, which corresponded to falls of 94.2% and 95.3%, respectively, the Statistics Portugal (INE) announced on Wednesday.

According to the INE, the number of overnight stays by residents fell 85.9% (-93.5% in April) and those by non-residents fell 98.4% (-98.9% in the previous month).

Total income registered a negative variation of 97.2% (-98.5% in April), standing at 11.0 million euros.

The income from pensions reached 9.6 million euros, decreasing 96.8% (-98.2% in the previous month).
