Health authorities have identified 540 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus. 16 people died from Covid-19 on the last day.

Portugal has registered 540 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This is an increase of 2.2% over the previous day, with the total number of infected people rising to 25,045.

“Every day there are new cases, but the trend of the epidemic is declining,” Graças Freitas, director of DGS, said at a press conference. “But the lack of definition does not exempt us from continuing to maintain control and prevention measures,” she warned.

In the last 24 hours a further 16 people have died, bringing the number of deaths from the disease from 973 to 989. The data revealed this Thursday by the DGS also shows that 1,519 people have recovered from Covid-19 in Portugal.

DGS data also show that 968 patients with Covid-19 are currently hospitalized, 172 of which in intensive care units. Most deaths were in the age group 70 and above, considered one of the risk groups.
