The Government will decree next weekend the same rule it adopted during Easter, prohibiting travel between different municipalities.

Prime Minister António Costa announced this Friday that the Government will decree next weekend, from May 1st to 3th, the same norm adopted during the Easter. In other words, travel between municipalities will be prohibited. Right after these three days, on May 4th some restrictions will begin to be lifted.

“The Government will decree for next weekend, from May 1st to 3th, the same rule that was adopted for the Easter period and, therefore, travelling between municipalities will be prohibited in order to limit the margin of circulation,” said Costa, in statements broadcast by RTP3 from Sao Bento.

“Every day we have to maintain the highest restraint and isolation to continue to have success,” the Prime Minister argued, noting that “beyond the State of Emergency we will not live life normally” and that “every time we gain in restraint, we gain future freedom.”

At Easter, the Government decree defined that, as a general rule, citizens “may not move outside the municipality of usual residence” during this period, “except for reasons of health or other urgent need.”

The Prime Minister also stressed that on April 30th the Council of Ministers will announce the timeframe for the release of the confinement rules. “We have to do this safely, taking one step at a time,” he said, adding that the steps will be taken every 15 days and by sectors: the first lifts will take place on May 4th, the second wave on May 18th and the third on June 1st.
