The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Portugal rose to 8,251, while the number of deaths rose to 187 by midnight.

One month after the first case of coronavirus appeared in Portugal, the Directorate General for Health (DGS) reports 8,251 people infected with the disease. Health authorities have discovered 808 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Figures up to midnight also show that 27 more patients have died from the virus, a total of 187 since the pandemic began.

Of the 8,251 people infected with the disease, 726 are in hospital, of which 230 are in intensive care. These numbers “have to be observed in view of the age structure,” the DGS points out at the daily press conference. “We are a country with an aging population, many patients in hospitals are from this group,”  the Directorate General for Health explains.

There are still 4,957 cases awaiting laboratory results and 20,275 persons under surveillance by the authorities.
