The number of known cases of infection by the new coronavirus increased to 4,268 in Portugal.

The Directorate General for Health (DGS) discovered 724 new cases of Covid-19 in Portugal, increasing the number of people who tested positive for the new coronavirus from 3,544 to 4,268. By midnight, 16 new deaths had been registered, raising the number of deaths caused by the disease from 60 to 76.

This development in the number of known cases represents an increase of 20% compared to the data released on Thursday. The majority are found in the northern region of the country, where there are at least 2,443 infected, followed by the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, with at least 1,110 people infected, and Centro, with 520 confirmed cases.

Only 425 people are in hospital, 71 of them in intensive care, so over 90% of infected people are being medically followed in their homes. This information is in line with the plan to combat the epidemic designed by the DGS.
