The number of people infected in Portugal with the new coronavirus rose to 78, health authorities revealed in the daily update on the evolution of the outbreak.

The number of people infected in Portugal with the new coronavirus rose from 59 to 78, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) reported in the daily update on the epidemic’s evolution. By midnight, no deaths by Covid-19 had been recorded in the country.

The 78 confirmed cases correspond to six active transmission chains, which means that the authorities were able to identify six persons responsible for all the identified contagions. This figure remains in comparison with the previous DGS epidemiological bulletin.

The majority of cases correspond to individuals aged between 40 and 49 years: 11 men and 10 women. The second age group with the highest incidence is 30 to 39 years old, with eight men and six women infected. There are also two infected men over the age of 80, one of the main risk groups.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, health authorities identified 19 new cases in Portugal. This was the 24-hour period in which more new cases were identified by health authorities since March 2nd.

According to the data revealed this Thursday, there are 637 suspicious cases in the country and 133 are awaiting laboratory results. 4,923 people are under surveillance by the health authorities, according to the DGS.
