This Monday, José Lourenço exonerated José Marcos Barrica from the position of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Angola in Lisbon, according to the Angolan news agency. There are no official names for his replacement yet.
The news were disclosed in a note from the Civil House from the President of the Republic, in which it is stated that José Marcos Barrica “had been nominated in April of 2009 for a mandate that is now ending“.
José Marcos Barrica is leaving in a time of tension between Angola and Portugal, due to the Fizz proceeding that is convicting in Lisbon the former President of the Angolan Republic, Manuel Vicente. In January, João Lourenço stated that Portugal and Angola’s relationship will “highly depend” on the proceeding of the former President, and the current President classified the attitude of the Portuguese Justice as “an offence” to his country.
