The Portuguese Altri is interested in purchasing the Brazilian Lwarcel, a deal that might be assessed between 370 million and 440 million euros.

According to the Brazilian newspaper Estadão, the cellulose industry is on fire after the merger between Suzano and Fibria, which resulted in the world’s largest company in that sector. But another important deal is about to be closed, the newspaper discloses: the Lwart group is under negotiations to sell Lwarcel, and the Portuguese company Altri, headed by Paulo Fernandes, in on the run for the business.

In addition to the Portuguese company, the Chilean Arauco and the Asian April have also said to be interested in the business, and Estadão says the Spanish Ence may also be interested. The transaction should be concluded in the first semester of 2018.

Lwarcel is able to produce 250 thousand tons of cellulose, although it has an expansion plan to produce over one million tons. The project represents a 370 million euros’ investment.

Analysts consider Lwarcel as one of the last relevant assets for those aiming to expand their business in the Brazilian market.
