EDP said CEO Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade will step down at the end of his current term in 2027, opening a succession process at one of Portugal’s biggest energy groups.

EDP has confirmed that chief executive Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade will leave the Portuguese energy group at the end of his current mandate in 2027, starting a leadership transition at one of the country’s largest companies. The announcement matters for investors and the wider energy sector because it gives shareholders time to prepare for a change at the top.

In a statement to the market published on the website of CMVM, Portugal’s securities market regulator, EDP said Stilwell d’Andrade had informed the company’s General and Supervisory Board that he would not be available to join EDP’s corporate bodies for the next term. The current CEO will remain in office until the end of the mandate, which expires with the annual general meeting to be held in 2027.

Speaking exclusively to ECO, Stilwell d’Andrade said: “I have 25 years at EDP, 15 years on the Executive Board of Directors, it is the right time to leave EDP, to close a chapter.”

EDP said Stilwell d’Andrade will continue to perform his duties fully until then, with the full support of the General and Supervisory Board, to ensure continuity in executing the business plan and the company’s commitments. It also said the Executive Board would work closely with the supervisory body to secure a stable handover during the succession process.
