Estrela da Amadora has agreed to sell 90% of its football company, or SAD, for €40 million to a German investor group, in a deal that highlights investor interest in Portuguese top-flight football assets. Among the investors are footballers Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and Yann Sommer, according to the information reported by ECO.
The agreement was formalised this week and is expected to be made official in the coming days. Johannes Mosmang is set to become the new chairman of the SAD, while Francisco Lopo will remain chief executive. Paulo Lopo, the current chairman and majority shareholder, will leave the leadership of the company.
Paulo Lopo took over Estrela da Amadora in 2020, when the club was playing in the Campeonato de Portugal, in a €72,000 transaction. Six years later, the SAD is being sold for €40 million after the club’s return to the Primeira Liga, where it is now in its fourth straight season.
