Vodafone picks Lisbon for global cyber hub

Vodafone has chosen Lisbon for a new global cybersecurity centre, in a move that adds to Portugal’s technology investment pipeline and will initially create about 40 jobs. The British telecoms group said the new Global Cyber Centre in Lisbon will support the security and resilience of its operations, networks, systems and customers worldwide.

Based at Vodafone Portugal’s headquarters in Parque das Nações, the centre is intended to strengthen the group’s ability to anticipate, detect and respond to cyber threats. Vodafone described the project as a long-term investment, although it did not disclose financial details.

The Lisbon unit will join Vodafone’s existing global cybersecurity hubs in the UK, Germany, Romania and India. Recruitment is under way and will continue until the end of the year, with the company seeking candidates with experience in cybersecurity, engineering, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, as well as internal staff through career development and reskilling programmes.

Vodafone said the Lisbon teams will work with specialists across several international markets on secure solution development, risk management, infrastructure protection, and continuous threat monitoring and response. The company said it chose Portugal because of its technology ecosystem and the quality of local cybersecurity talent.
