Portugal confident TAP wont cut flights despite jet fuel risks
Portugal’s infrastructure minister says TAP’s fuel supply will remain secure despite global jet fuel concerns, easing fears for the airline ahead of peak travel season.
Portugal’s government believes TAP wont have to cut its offer despite growing concerns about jet fuel shortages in Europe, with Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz saying supply is expected to remain stable. The reassurance matters as airlines face rising costs and potential disruptions linked to global fuel markets.
Pinto Luz said authorities are closely monitoring the situation but expressed confidence that “TAP’s flight supply will continue to be guaranteed”, even as the aviation sector faces uncertainty tied to geopolitical tensions affecting fuel availability.
The comments come as Portugal benefits from relatively stable supply conditions compared with other European countries. Domestic production, existing inventories and imports are currently sufficient to cover demand in the coming months, according to industry and government assessments.
Across Europe, however, the outlook is more uncertain, with airlines warning of potential shortages driven by disruptions to supply routes and higher fuel prices. The situation has raised concerns about possible flight reductions during the summer peak season.
For Portugal, the government’s message is that while global risks persist, the country’s supply chain and refining capacity provide a buffer that should allow TAP and other airlines to maintain operations in the near term.
