Claranet had no intention of selling Claranet Portugal
The CEO of Claranet Portugal, António Miguel Ferreira, gave an interview to ECO in which he explained why the British group agreed to sell the Portuguese unit to Nos for 152 million euros.
In the first interview with the CEO of Claranet Portugal since Nos announced the purchase of the company for 152 million euros on 27 January, António Miguel Ferreira revealed to ECO that the British group didn’t intend to sell the Portuguese subsidiary, which was one of its largest operations, but ended up accepting a sum that will allow it to invest more in other markets where it is already present.
“It was an evolutionary process. Claranet had no intention of selling Claranet Portugal, or any other country”, said António Miguel Ferreira. According to him, Nos approached Claranet’s Portuguese unit “some time ago”.
“Because it’s a credible and reputable company, it deserved our consideration to talk about their willingness to invest in the IT [Information Technology] market”, he emphasised.
Without giving any further details, the CEO of Claranet Portugal also emphasised that Nos’ strategic desire to diversify its business should not be limited to investing in this area.
The manager, who is also the leader in Spain and Brazil and sits on the executive committee of the Claranet group, also confirmed that there is an agreement to maintain the brand in Portugal, as well as operational independence from Nos.
He also promised that there will be no redundancies, something that is ‘a given’. However, on the sidelines of the Building the Future conference, which took place this week in Lisbon, he refused to talk about the future — including his own.
