Paula Amorim heads Forbes list of 50 most powerful women in business

Paula Amorim, a scion of Portugal’s leading family in the cork business, heads the list of 50 most powerful women in business in the country in Tuesday’s edition of Forbes Portugal, with the top 5 also including Cláudia Azevedo, Mafalda Duarte, Inês Caldeira and Manuela Ferro.
This edition of the magazine highlights “the Portuguese women who are making their mark inside and outside Portugal” and was drawn up “based on an evaluation of hundreds of companies, from which more than 100 names of CEOs, managing directors, administrators, shareholders and entrepreneurs are taken.
“The list is ordered by a final score for each name, based on five criteria, scored from zero to 20,” the magazine adds.
Forbes Portugal “evaluated and scored these names by personal or family wealth; by decision-making power – if she is CEO, chairman of the board, administrator or shareholder – power of influence, i.e. her projection outside the company, projects in which she is involved, articles she writes and active participation in social networks; business size – if they are large international businesses, in which countries are present, what is the geographical area of action; and by their entrepreneurship, if she only made a career in one area or several, or if she was involved in the creation of companies,” it further explains.
In first place is Paula Amorim, shareholder and director of Galp Energia, Corticeira Amorim, the Américo Amorim group, the Amorim Luxury Group. Number two is Cláudia Azevedo, shareholder and CEO of Sonae, the property to construction materials group.
In third place is the managing director of the Green Climate Fund, Mafalda Duarte, followed by the global deputy director of L’Óreal Paris, Inês Caldeira.
In fifth place is Manuela Ferro, vice president of the World Bank for Asia and Pacific.
