TAP privatisation has red lines

Portugal’s minister of infrastructure said n Wednesday that the government had red lines in the TAP privatisation process and highlighted the role of legal and contractual mechanisms to ensure that the conditions will be met by the buyer.
João Galamba was speaking at the regular hearing of the Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing Commission in parliament, where he is being heard on the ministry’s general policy and other current issues.
The minister stressed that one of the ways of safeguarding conditions in the TAP privatisation process is through the specifications, but said that “it is not the only way” and “often it is not enough”.
In response to Left Bloc MP Mariana Mortágua, who accused the government of not having red lines regarding this process, João Galamba said that they did have them.
“If those red lines that you say we don’t have and we do have, are not met, there are legal and contractual mechanisms that allow us to accommodate that situation and defend the public interest,” he said.

The government plans to publish the decree-law during the summer that will launch the privatisation of TAP, the minister for infrastructure noted today.
This publication will be followed by approval of a cabinet resolution that will define the terms of the process and the specifications.
