Delta to resume direct flights between Lisbon, Boston from 9 May
Delta Air Lines will over the summer operate up to 14 flights a week between Portugal and the US, with a capacity of up to 430 seats per day.
US passenger airline Delta Air Lines announced on Tuesday that it will resume its summer service of daily direct flights between Lisbon and Boston, in the US state of Massachusetts, from 9 May and until 27 October of this year.
In a statement, the company notes that the service has not extended over such a long period since its launch in 2019, and will complement the year-round service between Lisbon and New York’s JFK airport, which is also daily.
In all, Delta Air Lines will over the summer operate up to 14 flights a week between Portugal and the US, with a capacity of up to 430 seats per day.
“The resumption of this summer service enables our US leisure and business customers – one of the top five source markets in terms of revenue – to reach an increasingly popular destination in our network and explore the country’s rich history and heritage, but also helps promote the local travel industry,” said Delta’s vice president for the EMEAI (Europe, Middle East, Africa and India) region, Nicolas Ferri, quoted in the document.
The chairman of Portugal’s national tourist board, Luís Araújo, hailed the return of the route as proving the recovery of tourism in Portugal, and highlighted the “opportunity that already exists for the opening of new routes linking the two countries.”
Massachusetts has a large Portuguese-American community, particularly in New Bedford and Provincetown.
The flights are to be undertaken by Boeing 767-300 aircraft and in conjunction with Delta’s transatlantic partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic.
