55,000 foreign workers interested in coming to Portugal
The minister Ana Mendes Godinho provided the data during a hearing in the Budget and Finance Committee as part of the discussion of the proposed State Budget for 2023 (OE2023).
Portugal’s minister of labour announced on Friday that “about 55,000” foreign workers have expressed interest in entering and staying in Portugal to seek employment through the IEFP page created for this purpose.
Ana Mendes Godinho provided the data during a hearing in the Budget and Finance Committee as part of the discussion of the proposed State Budget for 2023 (OE2023).
According to Mendes Godinho, so far, “about 55,000 workers” have registered on the page of the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) to express interest in seeking employment in Portugal, stressing that they are “decisive” workers for the labour market in Portugal and Social Security contributions.
In October, during a hearing before the Budget and Finance Committee, the Minister of Labour indicated that the number of foreign workers with salaries declared to Social Security reached 530,000, representing 12% of the total of those registered.
According to the minister, the number of workers declared to Social Security reached a record this year, with around 4.9 million people.
Ana Mendes Godinho stressed the “extraordinary evolution since 2015” regarding foreign workers who declare remuneration to Social Security, indicating that in 2015 there were “110,000 foreign people contributing to the system” of Social Security, and in 2022 that number is 530,000.
