The announcement comes after Nigeria LNG Limited warned Galp of "substantial reduction in the production and supply of liquefied natural gas and natural gas liquids".

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Action said Monday that “there is currently no confirmation of any reduction in gas deliveries from Nigeria,” saying there is “no shortage in the market.

The announcement comes after Nigeria LNG Limited warned Galp of a “substantial reduction in the production and supply of liquefied natural gas and natural gas liquids”.

“The Ministry of Environment and Climate Action reports that there is currently no confirmation of any reduction in gas deliveries from Nigeria. Even if this were to happen, there is no shortage in the market,” the Ministry stressed in a statement sent to news outlets.

“Any alarmist information is inappropriate, even more so in times of global uncertainty,” Duarte Cordeiro’s office added.

On Monday night, Nigeria LNG Limited warned Galp of a “substantial reduction in the production and supply of liquefied natural gas and natural gas liquids” due to the rains and floods recorded in West and Central Africa, which could put supply in Portugal at risk.

“Galp informs that it has received from Nigeria LNG Limited, its main natural gas supplier, a force majeure notice based on the extensive flooding being experienced in Nigeria, causing a substantial reduction in the production and supply of liquefied natural gas and natural gas liquids,” reads the statement sent by the company to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CMVM).

According to the Portuguese, “At this stage, no information was provided to support an assessment of potential impacts from this event, which may however result in additional sourcing disruptions to Galp.”
