The 122 MW solar farm will create 850 jobs in the construction phase and will be developed by EDP Brasil and EDP Renováveis for the North American company.

The EDP group will build a solar power generation park for Amazon. The Portuguese energy company will implement a project to generate 122 MW of power in Brazil in an undisclosed location. The value of the investment, which will create 850 jobs during the construction phase, was not disclosed.

“This project will boost all our businesses in Brazil: operations, call centres and Amazon Web Services data centres,” signalled Daniel Mazini, president of Amazon Brazil, quoted by Reuters.

The infrastructure will be EDP Brasil’s largest solar farm in the country and will also involve EDP Renováveis. In July 2021, the EDP group and Amazon Web Services signed a strategic collaboration agreement regarding power purchase agreements for future wind and solar power projects and the provision of cloud, technology and digital services.

In the strategic plan announced for the 2021-2025 cycle, EDP Brasil highlighted that it intends to reach 1 GW of installed capacity in photovoltaic generation in Brazil. By 2025, the energy company wants to invest over three billion reais (€580.44 million) in solar energy projects in Brazil.

By 2025, Amazon also intends to use 100% renewable energy in its business.
