Portuguese banks place NPL portfolios worth €540 million on the market

The risk of non-performing loans (NPLs) increases, and banks speed up the sale of troubled assets. In question are five NPL portfolios worth €540 million from four banks.

With Interest rising and monthly house payments increasing, the risk of non-performing loans (NPLs) is growing, and therefore banks are speeding up the sale of troubled assets. Jornal Económico reported on Friday that there are currently five NPL portfolios on the market, from four banks, with a total value of €540 million.

According to the newspaper, Novobanco is selling a real estate NPL portfolio called “Minerva” worth €140 million. As for BCP, the Portuguese bank is trying to sell the “Aurora” portfolio, with an estimated value of €70 million.

Montepio wants to sell two NPL portfolios, one of €130 million and another of €100 million, with different characteristics. Finally, Santander Totta is selling a real estate NPL portfolio worth €100 million. It is called “Guadiana”.
