No discrimination against Endesa, said PM

Portugal’s prime minister refused on Friday to discriminate against Endesa, saying that the company’s president said “something false” about the Iberian market, which required “particular caution regarding that operator.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to the Luís Madureira crèche in Amadora (Lisbon), António Costa was asked if, by signing the dispatch on Endesa, he was discriminating against that company.
“No, it is not discriminatory at all. (…) As we all heard, the president of that company announced that prices would rise 40% and said something false, which was that this increase resulted from the existence of the Iberian market, and everyone knows that is a lie and, therefore, that required particular caution regarding that operator,” he replied.
The prime minister stressed that “the state obviously checks all invoices,” reiterating that, in the specific case of Endesa, “because there was apparently an error in understanding how the [Iberian] mechanism worked on the part of that company, it was essential that there was technical and not merely financial control of the invoice.
