Fewer flights over mainland, Madeira in July compared to 2019
According to NAV data, until July the company controlled 338,237 flights in the Lisbon RIV and 90,226 in the Santa Maria RIV.
The flights controlled by NAV on the mainland and Madeira fell by 6.2% in July to 57,196, while in the Azores, they increased by 1.6% to 16,157 compared to 2019, according to data released on Tuesday by the company that manages air traffic in Portugal.
Thus, NAV controlled 73,353 flights in July this year it indicated in a statement.
“In July 2022 IFR [‘Instruments Flight Rules’] traffic in the Lisbon flight information region (RIV) totalled 57,196 movements, meaning a decrease of -6.2% compared to 60,985 flights recorded in July 2019, the reference year for aviation,” it indicated, adding that “in average terms, 1,845 IFR flights were controlled daily in July, registering a loss of 122 daily flights compared to July 2019.”
The Lisbon flight information region (RIV) includes air movements in mainland Portugal and Madeira.
On the other hand, NAV indicated, “the actual data in the Santa Maria RIV in July 2022 total 16,157 movements in IFR traffic, translating an increase of 1.6% compared to the 15,910 flights in the same month of 2019,” and “in average terms 521 IFR flights per day were monitored this month, with an increase of eight flights per day recorded compared to July 2019.”
The Santa Maria RIV includes traffic “over a wide area” of the North Atlantic Ocean and the Azores.
