The pharmaceutical company will expand the current factory, build a new antibiotic production unit and also increase its logistics capacity and have a social building.

Portuguese pharmaceutical company Bial will invest around €30 million on its campus in Trofa, according to the newspaper Jornal de Negócios. After acquiring land next to the central facilities in 2020, it can now double the perimeter of the group’s headquarters from 12 to 24 hectares.

The pharmaceutical company will expand the current factory, build a new antibiotic production unit and also increase logistics capacity and have a social building. The expansion will allow the packaging of medicines according to US rules, as well as a specific production line for this market.

With the new production line, Bial will produce in Trofa the two drugs of its own research to satisfy the US market. “It is a strategic investment because it makes us autonomous, producing all our medicines in Portugal, exporting finished products to all markets where we have a commercial presence,” said José Redondo, the director of Bial’s financial and industrial area.
