PM to inaugurate Hannover Messe ’22 with German chancellor
In a statement, the prime minister's office said that António Costa "will be on May 29 and 30 at the Hannover Messe'22, which this year has Portugal as a partner country."
Portugal’s prime minister will travel to Hannover, Germany, on Sunday and Monday, where, together with the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, he will inaugurate the city’s industrial fair, which this year chose Portugal as a partner country.
In a statement, the prime minister’s office said that António Costa “will be on May 29 (Sunday) and 30 (Monday) at the Hannover Messe’22, the world’s largest industry fair, which this year has Portugal as a partner country.
According to the programme, the head of the government will meet with “the Portuguese businessmen present at the fair” at 3h00 pm on Sunday (2h00 pm Lisbon time), before presiding, together with the German chancellor, over “the opening of the fair on Sunday at 6h00 pm (5h00 pm Lisbon time)”.
On Monday, Scholz and Costa will participate in “the welcome ceremony in the auditorium of the central Portugal pavilion,” at 9h00 am (8h00 am Lisbon time). Afterwards, both will visit national stands at the fair.
Created in 1947, the Hannover industrial fair takes place every year and is, according to the organisation, “the most important industrial fair in the world”. Since 1980, the show has always invited a partner country.
After having Indonesia as a guest country in 2021, Hannover Messe’22 chose Portugal as a partner this year because, according to the organisation, it is “an important country for German industry, where companies are sure to discover innovation, reliability and talent committed to their expertise”.
In the statement from the prime minister’s office, it is stressed that the choice of Portugal “corresponds to an important international recognition” and is a “unique opportunity” for the country “to show the excellence of its industry.
“Portugal will be represented by 109 companies operating in the areas of engineering solutions (‘Engineeiring Parts & Solutions’), energy solutions and digital ecosystems (‘Digital Ecosystems’), focusing on the equipment and metalworking sectors, mobility, automotive and aeronautical sectors, automation and robotics, textiles and technical plastics, moulds, production technologies and renewable energy,” the statement said.
In the scope of Hannover Messe’22, António Costa organised three sessions with businessmen from the northern and central regions of Portugal that will participate in the fair, as part of a series of meetings entitled ‘On the Way to Hannover’.
The third and last session of the series will take place on Tuesday at 10am in Sintra.
On May 18, in Aveiro, during the second meeting of this initiative, António Costa argued that the choice of Portugal as a partner in the industrial fair meant recognition of the work done by Portuguese companies.
“The attribution to Portugal of the status of partner country at Hannover Messe is a recognition of the excellence of the work that has been developed by Portuguese companies,” said the prime minister at the time.
