Golden visas for foreigners yields €48 million to state in January

In the first month of the year, 94 golden visas were granted, of which 75 in real estate acquisitions (40 for urban rehabilitation) and 19 by way of capital transfer.

Investment raised through golden residence permits for foreigners rose 45% year-on-year in January to €48 million, the highest figure in the first month of the year since 2019, according to the foreigners and borders service (SEF) data.

In January 2021, investment raised through the Residence Permit for Investment (ARI) programme totalled €33.1 million. In 2020, the amount was €45.4 million and in 2019, the figure amounted to €85.6 million.

Compared to last December (€42.1 million), the investment grew by 14%.

In the first month of the year, 94 golden visas were granted, of which 75 in real estate acquisitions (40 for urban rehabilitation) and 19 by way of capital transfer.

Investment in the purchase of property totalled €38.7 million in January, of which €14.3 million in urban rehabilitation, while in the transfer of capital the amount reached €9.2 million.

Last month, 19 golden visas were granted to China, 17 to the United States, eight to India, seven to Russia and six to Brazil.

In January, 105 residence permits were granted to reunited family members.

Since the ARI granting programme was launched in October 2012, €6,147,874,500.99 has been raised via this instrument. Of this amount, most correspond to the purchase of real estate, which totalled €5,545,982,427.40 until January, and the acquisition for urban rehabilitation amounted to €376,804,564.85.

The investment resulting from the capital transfer is €601,892,073.59.

Since the creation of this instrument, which aims to attract foreign investment, 10,348 ARI have been assigned: two in 2012, 494 in 2013, 1,526 in 2014, 766 in 2015, 1,414 in 2016, 1,351 in 2017, 1,409 in 2018, 1,245 in 2019, 1,182 in 2020, 865 in 2021 and 94 in 2022.

In over nine years, 9,660 permits have been granted through the purchase of property, of which 1,049 are for urban rehabilitation.

668 permits have been granted for the transfer of capital, and 20 for job creation.

Since the beginning of the programme, 17,326 residence permits have been granted to regrouped family members, of which 105 in 2022.
