Portuguese unicorn buys Bright Technologies unit

Sword Health has acquired the software development startup Bright Technologies. The Portuguese unicorn is also recruiting 150 professionals in the areas of engineering and product for Portugal.

Sword Health has acquired the software development unit of Portuguese startup Bright Technologies. With this operation, the national unicorn reinforces the engineering and product team to achieve its expansion and growth plans. SwordHealth is also recruiting 150 professionals in the areas of engineering and product “mainly” for Portugal. Globally, it has 300 vacancies.

“The strategic acquisition of Bright Technologies’ software development area reinforces our growth and expansion priorities, investing in a team of excellence in key areas of engineering and product, essential for building increasingly disruptive solutions in healthcare,” said Jorge Meireles, VP of engineering at Sword Health, quoted in a statement.

Sword Health does not disclose the value of this purchase “nor the staff that is part of this acquisition,” reinforces the team of the national unicorn that created the first digital solution to treat musculoskeletal pathologies. “We can say that we will be over 300 people globally,” explains an official source of the startup when questioned by ECO.

“These 150 jobs are mostly for Portugal in the areas of engineering, development and product. At a global level, we have 300 vacancies for marketing, sales, operations, etc,” says the same source.

Founded by Virgílio Bento in 2015, the company has plans to “accelerate global expansion, intensify the development of new digital therapies and recruit 300 employees in Portugal and globally over the coming months.”
