Wine exports improve, Douro up 11%
The 'top five' destination markets for national wine exports, in terms of value, were France, the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom, Brazil and Germany.
Portuguese wine exports grew 3.8% in volume and 8.6% in value between January and November, compared to 2020, with the Douro increasing 11% in quantity and 18% in value to almost €547 million.
The data is from Statistics Portugal (INE) and was released today in a statement by the agriculture ministry.
“Portuguese wines have shown a remarkable evolution, largely driven by exports. The data just released by the INE underlines this, while also showing the resilience of the sector,” said the agriculture minister, Maria do Céu Antunes, quoted in the statement.
According to the statement, November 2021 “was a particularly positive month” for Douro and Port wine sales, “the best month of all, since the beginning of 2019, in terms of turnover, both in the domestic market and at the export level.”
In other eleven months until November, the ‘top five’ destination markets for national wine exports, in terms of value, were France, the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom, Brazil and Germany.
“The ministry of agriculture has been closely monitoring producers and farmers, defining and implementing the necessary measures to guarantee predictability and stability, and we would like to congratulate them on these results, which we are very pleased with,” Antunes said.
