Business picking up for hotels in Madeira

The Regional Directorate of Statistics reported on Monday that Madeira's hotels received last November a total of 97,400 guests, 288.5% more than the same month of 2020.

According to figures released this Monday, these visitors generated 571,800 overnight stays, an increase of 304.4% compared to November 2020.

According to the information, between January and November 2021, Madeira’s tourist accommodation sector recorded 4.5 million overnight stays (+75.6% than in the same period of 2020 and -40.6% than in the first eleven months of 2019).

There was also a 197.3% increase, compared to the same month, in overnight stays by visitors from mainland Portugal (77,200, representing 13.5% of the total.

Those from foreigners rose 328.5% compared to November 2020, reaching 494,600.

The German market tops the list of overnight stays, accounting for 153,700, followed by the United Kingdom, with 128,100, and France, with 25,300.

The estimate also states that last November, 24.7% of tourist accommodation establishments in Madeira were closed or did not receive any guests.
