Oxy Capital buys glassmaking group in Batalha
A few days after acquiring Vidraria Mortágua, the private equity company notifies the Competition Authority of another operation in this sector, concerning Vidros Cerejo and Batalhatempra.
Oxy Capital will acquire Vidros Cerejo and Batalhatempra, founded by businessman José Cerejo, installed in the Batalha Industrial Area and operating in the international market with the Vitrer brand, with a presence in France, Belgium, Switzerland, England and several Maghreb countries.
The merger operation and the change of shareholders in these two industrial units specialised in the moulding and transformation of glass products was notified to the Competition Authority at the end of last week and published this Monday in the newspapers.
Founded in 1991 by José Pinheiro Cerejo da Silva, who has over four decades of experience in the glass industry, Vidros Cerejo claims the leading position in the domestic market, through the transformation and commercialisation of flat glass, namely double glazing and tempered glass.
For Batalhatempra, which began operating in January 2008, the businessman called four other experienced partners in this sector – Paulo Nuno, João Peixe, Fernando Oliveira and José Gonçalves -, creating the first “fully autonomous” company in the centre of the country to provide glass heat treatment services.
This is the second operation notified by Oxy Capital to the Competition Authority in the last two weeks, following the notification made on November 15 regarding the acquisition of Vidraria Mortágua – Vidros e Espelhos, located in the district of Viseu.
Oxy Capital, which in the first quarter of this year submitted a non-binding offer to buy Efacec, is led by Miguel Lucas and has offices in Lisbon and Milan, and currently has a team with nearly 30 professionals divided between Portugal and Italy.
