Amancio Ortega became the second-largest shareholder of the Portuguese company.

Amancio Ortega has bought a stake in Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN). Through Pontegadea Inversiones, he has acquired 12% of the Portuguese company, becoming the second-largest shareholder of the listed company led by Rodrigo Costa.

In a statement sent to CMVM, REN informs that “Pontegadea Inversiones S.L. acquired from Mazoon B.V. the total shares that the latter held in REN, corresponding to 12.006% of REN’s share capital.”

This Pontegadea Inversiones is owned by Amancio Ortega, the owner of Zara, who suddenly became REN’s second-largest shareholder.

Ortega’s investment in REN comes one day after the purchase of 5% of Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the company that manages the energy network in Spain, was announced.
