The announcement of the hub's opening in Portugal comes after the company raised €665 million in the Series C round.

Mollie has just opened its first development centre in Lisbon and is recruiting. By 2023 the Dutch startup wants to expand with over 100 employees. It is looking for software engineers, engineering managers and product managers.

The announcement of the hub’s opening in Portugal comes after the company raised €665 million in the Series C round, thus increasing its valuation to €5.4 billion. With this round, the fintech aims to expand its product portfolio beyond payments into the area of financial services for SMEs, led by newly arrived chief product officer, Rogier Schoute.

“Mollie is now one of the largest privately-held fintechs in Europe, and we have firm plans to accelerate our product development to meet the evolving needs of our over 120,000 customers. We are very excited to be coming to Portugal, and believe that Lisbon is a fantastic base to set up our new development hub, with thousands of software engineers and product managers in the region,” said Marco dos Santos, Mollie’s CTO, in a statement.

Diogo Antunes, senior engineering manager at Mollie, will coordinate the development hub and has set ambitious recruitment goals: over 100 new employees in two years. In the first phase, the fintech company expects to hire up to 20 employees by the end of the year, focusing on hiring software engineers and product managers. The following year, it wants to increase its team to 60 members, aiming to reach the goal of over 100 employees in 2023.

Mollie works with partners like Klarna, WooCommerce and other web agencies to provide services/products to SMEs. The startup also has clients such as Gymshark, Lyskin and Sem Escamas.
