Cruise ships can keep disembarking passengers until August 8

The order, which takes effect from 12 am today and is in force until 11 pm on August 8, extends the government's authorisation in May, which followed several months of prohibition due to the pandemic.

The permission for passengers and crew of cruise ships to disembark in ports of mainland Portugal is extended until August 8, but they need to present a negative test to Covid-19, according to the order that came into force on Monday.

The order, which takes effect from 12 am today and is in force until 11 pm on August 8, extends the government’s authorisation in May, which followed several months of prohibition due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The government said cruise lines have developed contingency plans to implement passenger and crew testing, which has allowed some resumption of international activity.

According to the most recent balance of the agency France-Presse, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,156,164 deaths worldwide, among more than 193,687,980 cases of infection by the new coronavirus.

According to the Directorate-General of Health, in Portugal, since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 17,292 people have died, and 953,059 cases of infection have been recorded.
