Covid-19 incidence, transmissibility rate (Rt) rising
In Portugal, 17,108 people have died and 884,442 cases of infection have been confirmed, according to the latest bulletin from the DGS.
The incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal continues to rise, and now stands at 194.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as well as 189.4 for the country as a whole, official data showed.
On Wednesday, the incidence of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in mainland Portugal was 176.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the figure for the whole country was 172.8.
According to the joint bulletin of the country’s national health authority, the DGS, and the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), the transmissibility index (Rt) rose from 1.14 to 1.16 throughout the country and from 1.15 to 1.17 in mainland Portugal.
The transmissibility index and 14-day incidence data are updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
These indicators – the transmissibility index of the virus and the incidence rate of new cases of Covid-19 – are the two criteria defined by the government to evaluate the relieving of lockdown measures that began on 15 March.
