Dense Air installs 5G infrastructure at Estoril congress centre

Dense Air on Friday said that it has installed a 5G infrastructure in the Estoril congress centre, which allows visitors and users in the vicinity to experience the telecommunications capabilities of this technology.

“The installation follows the memorandum of understanding signed in September 2019 between the Cascais city council and Dense Air,” said the company, which applied for the award of 5G licences.

“The intention is to put the municipality at the forefront of the communications revolution driven by 5G in Portugal, offering cutting-edge technology within its concept of an intelligent city,” it said, noting that with this installation, Cascais becomes one of the first municipalities to achieve the ambition of technological excellence through the implementation of 5G infrastructures.

Earlier this year, Dense Air recalled, the government announced its intention to have 5G available in at least one coastal city by the end of 2020, as part of the National Strategy for 5G.

“This is another important milestone for Dense Air Portugal in the strategy to bring ‘neutral host’ 5G services to the market,” said Tony Boyle, Dense Air Portugal’s managing director.

“The 5G infrastructure with Massive Mimo technology will provide Gigabit services to 5G-ready devices, while also powering our innovative ‘small cell’ based Magic Box to provide densified building coverage,” he said.

“We are therefore very pleased to be an active part in the arrival of 5G in Cascais”.

Dense Air intends to implement its network service model centred on ‘small cells’ in Portugal to improve network coverage, increase available capacity and significantly improve the end-consumer experience.
