Easyjet announced on Thursday the opening of a new base in Faro next spring, its third in Portugal.

Easyjet Portugal’s managing director, José Lopes, said on Thursday that the opening of the new base in Faro, which will create 100 direct jobs, “unequivocally confirms the airline’s great commitment” to Portugal.

Easyjet announced on Thursday the opening of a new base in Faro next spring, its third in Portugal.

José Lopes also said he had concluded an agreement on Wednesday with the company’s employee representatives in Portugal.

“We concluded an agreement yesterday with the representatives of our employees that not only allows us to move forward with this growth project, but also (…) avoid any redundancies in Portugal and allow this growth at a time when we are going through a world crisis and a restructuring also in the company itself.”

The opening of the Faro base will allow Easyjet to be “attentive and take advantage of new opportunities that may arise in the market.”

Pointing out the “long history” of the airline with Portugal, José Lopes said that the company has 325 employees in the country, “complying with all labour rules.”

Currently, the company has two bases in Portugal, Lisbon and Porto, with nine aircraft, five in the capital and four in Porto, with 66 routes, serving the country’s four main airports.

The opening of the new base in Faro in 2021 will create “around 100 new direct jobs in the Algarve and many more indirect jobs to support not only our operation.”

“This base will have three Airbus 319 aircraft and will allow us to continue to strengthen our operation, which at the moment will correspond to 17 international destinations that will continue to be served to and from the Algarve,” he added.
