The Portuguese Government is preparing an aid package for TAP that could include early retirement without any penalty for workers.

With a large part of the fleet halted due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, TAP was forced to join the simplified lay-off scheme to reduce costs. But it will take an aid package to save the Portuguese airline.

According to the Jornal Económico, despite the lay-off, the company will have to reduce the number of workers, with the possibility of going ahead with an early retirement process. Under study is the possibility of these employees leaving the active life without any penalty.

This is just one of several measures being prepared under the TAP rescue plan because of Covid-19. This plan will also include tax exemptions, deferment of TSU and taxes.
