Number of tourists and revenue soared this Easter

Easter attracted more tourists to Portugal. The number of guests reached 2M, the equivalent to a 9% rise relative to the same period of last year, INE revealed.

Easter attracted more tourists to Portugal. The number of guests reached 2M, the equivalent to a 9% rise relative to the same period of last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Despite the number of foreigners visiting the country reaching 1.4M and representing a hike of 8.2%, it was the number of Portuguese nationals spending holidays in the country that contributed the most for these impressive figures, rising 10.5% to 862,000. Tourism’s revenue rose 9.6% to 331.5M€ this time of the year.

In average and in comparison with April last year, guests spend more nights in touristic accommodations (2,57 nights) with an increase of 0.4%. However, the time foreign tourists spent in Portugal decreased by 1.1%, while the duration of holidays Portuguese nationals spent in the country increased by 5%.
