BPI wants to bet on increasing its credit portfolio next year. The Portuguese Investment bank, which is controlled by CaixaBank, aims at reaching an average annual profit growth of 7%, until 2021.

According to the company’s 2019-2021 strategic plan, released by the Portuguese Market Regulator, CMVM, the institution is aiming at increasing the quota on housing credit to 12.5% and for consumption credit to 15%.

Credit for consumption will increase yearly by 8%, and company credit will increase by 5% yearly. BPI expects to reach a profit of about 7% with these numbers, over the course of the next three years.

Besides, the banking head by Pablo Forero is betting highly in the digital transformation of the institution. If in one hand the bank is hoping to increase the number of digital customers, on the other hand, it hopes to simplify the processes used.

BPI estimates that the number of clients using home banking services (digital customers) shall increase by 50%, nine percentage points more than in 2018 (41%). However, with the digital transformation, the bank is also expecting to increase efficiency, consolidating its reputation.

One of the other commitments assumed by the bank for 2021 is to achieve an efficiency ratio of 50%, in comparison with the 61% efficiency rate achieved in 2018. It also expects to maintain the performance of the credit quality indicators.

Increasing the relationship with the client and the position in the society itself are, as well, goals the bank wants to achieve. “To keep a high-quality standard in our client service” and to “position BPD as a reference in terms of responsible management and social commitment”, are some other things which the strategic plan also shows.

As for its employees, the bank is going to continue betting on training its staff and increasing their focus on talent management.
