"Rounded to one decimal place, this rate coincides with the value of the flash estimate published on September 30," the INE noted.

The year-on-year change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September was 9.3%, up 0.4 of a percentage point on the previous month and the highest rate since October 1992, Statistics Portugal (INE) confirmed in a release on Thursday.

“Rounded to one decimal place, this rate coincides with the value of the flash estimate published on September 30,” the INE noted.

In September, the indicator of underlying inflation (CPI excluding unprocessed food and energy products) was up 6.9% year on year, a rate that is 0.4 of a point higher than the August year-on-year figure.

It is also “the highest value registered since February 1994,” according to the INE.
