Youth unemployment up 2.3% between December, January

In January there were 7,909 more unemployed people registered compared to December and 68,491 fewer unemployed compared to January 2021.

The number of unemployed registered at job centres increased 2.3% in January compared to December and recorded a reduction of 16.1% compared to the same month last year, to 355,868, according to data from the IEFP.

The ministry of labour, solidarity and social security released a note in which it stressed that the rise between December and January “is the smallest increase in the month of January since 2007”.

The data shows that youth unemployment (people under the age of 25) increased 4.6% month-on-month (+1,661 unemployed), but registered a fall of 24.9% (-12,513 people) compared to January 2021.
