EDP Renováveis unit generates 30.3 TWh of clean energy in 2021, up 6%
According to EDP Renováveis, Europe and North America accounted for 37% and 56% of total power generation, respectively.
EDP Renováveis (EDPR), the renewable energy unit of Energias de Portugal (EDP), generated an estimated 30.3 terawatts per hour (TWh) of clean energy in 2021, up 6% from the previous year, with Europe and North America standing out, according to a statement the company sent to Portugal’s Securities Markets Commission (CMVM).
According to EDPR, Europe and North America accounted for 37% and 56% of total power generation, respectively.
In Europe, the company added, there was a 13% rise in the generation of clean energy, as a result of greater installed capacity and “slightly higher resources”.
In North America, production fell 2% compared to 2020, as a result of the new installed capacity in operation, which was offset by the lower resource and impact of a non-recurring event in the first quarter of 2021.
In Latin America, production grew 73% due to the higher installed capacity and greater resources in Brazil, the release said.
EDPR’s installed capacity last year grew to 13.6 gigawatts (GW), or a net 1.4 GW more than at the end of 2020, with Europe and North America accounting for 42% and 52%, respectively.
In 2021, EDPR said, it achieved a utilisation factor of 29%, down 0.8 of a percentage point from the previous year.
It said that it continues to accelerate growth, with 13.6 GW already installed and further technological diversification with over 1.1 GW of solar capacity and 1.5 GW of gross offshore capacity in operation and construction.
